Martin Picard
Director, U1 Technologies

Martin Picard brings over twenty years of experience as a software innovator to U1's Board of Directors. Martin has pioneered a number of successful software products such as Oracle's SQL*Net - which enabled the first client-server and distributed database applications, and BMC's Patrol - the first applications-level distributed systems management platform. Martin is currently the President of Nomadica Pty. Ltd., a holding company for a series of world-wide investments passive, real estate and venture.

In 1991 Martin founded Patrol Software. Martin was the inventor and co-designer of Patrol's pioneering Distributed Applications and Systems Management software. Today's multi-billion dollar Applications Management market was born from Patrol and one other competitor -- both launched in 1991. In 1994 Patrol Software was acquired by BMC Software. Patrol is in use at thousands of companies world wide and is the corner-stone of BMC Software's products with sales of several hundred million dollars a year.

In 1987, Martin established Oracle's Networking Products division working to productize and market the nascent client-server and distributed database technology. Martin was responsible for the technical evolution of the product, the porting to dozens of new platforms and for product sales. He expanded product sales from zero in 1987 to over $20M in 1989. SQL*Net and related products sell in excess of several hundred million dollars a year today.

Martin is fluent English, Italian, French and Spanish and is the co holder of several patents in the areas of Distributed Applications and Systems Management software. Martin has a B.S. in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and M.I.T.
